Silver for a true teamwork spirit.
Silver for a true teamwork spirit.
The Cyprianerhof has been recognized as an “Outstanding Workplace in Tourism” – for its clear values, social responsibility, and genuine team spirit.
Here, people come first. A conversation with Diego, Head of HR, about mindset, change, and the new staff residence.
The Cyprianerhof has received the Silver certification as an “Outstanding Workplace in Tourism.” But what’s behind the label?
The certification takes a close, critical look at the entire workplace – every aspect of what it means to be an employer. Working conditions, communication, team culture: all of it is examined and evaluated. The process was intense and forms part of our long-term sustainability strategy. The result shows: we uphold high standards – and our team helps shape them every step of the way.
Why is this kind of commitment so important to you?
A hotel is a people-centered business. Nothing works without the team. And for a team to thrive, leadership needs to be clear. Leadership doesn’t happen by itself – it’s a strategic tool. One that takes dedication and awareness. If we want to move forward, we have to work at the core – and that core is human. It’s not enough to want to be “better.” We need to understand what that really means in practice. The certification process helps us see where we are – and where we want to go.
The analysis goes deep.
The award is presented by hgc in Austria in cooperation with the Center for Responsible Tourism (CREST).
How does that translate into your work and culture?
A strong team doesn’t just happen. It takes trust, room to grow, and leadership that listens. Or as Michael puts it: “If you want your guests to feel welcome, your team has to feel welcome first.” And guests sense that right away.
I once read: Employee satisfaction = business success. It sounds simple. But it’s anything but.
What do you mean by that?
Satisfaction is more than a good salary or a prestigious line on your CV. It’s about meaning, growth, and a culture that’s truly lived. But above all, it’s about feeling seen and valued. That’s deeply personal – and for any company, working on it is a constant process.
Thankful. And wide awake.
“Real change doesn’t show up on a certificate – it shows in the team’s spirit.”
How does your commitment show up in everyday life?
In clear structures and routines, in open, respectful conversations, and in honest feedback. It’s often the small things that make the biggest difference. Our goal is to create an environment where everyone feels at ease – and has room to grow. Not just a concept on paper, but a mindset we live by. It takes energy. But it’s worth it. Because only those who truly reflect on themselves can grow.
What defines the culture at Cyprianerhof?
We believe in fairness, openness, trust, and mutual respect. Our teams work as equals, bring their ideas to the table, and take responsibility. We aim to have a positive impact – on quality of life, and on how we live and work together. That’s why we defined our core values together, as a team: Openness, respect, a sense of belonging, clarity, and a shared commitment to quality.
A closer look.
To earn recognition, you have to open yourself up: leadership, working conditions, fairness, growth, communication – everything’s on the table.
Did anything change through the certification process?
Absolutely. We’ve introduced clear department handbooks, created transparent development paths, and established a more dynamic meeting and feedback culture. Our approach to mistakes has changed too – it’s more open, more constructive. That strengthens team cohesion. And it improves the guest experience as well.
How do you measure your progress?
Very tangibly – in our turnover rate. In feedback from annual reviews or exit interviews. We also run regular anonymous surveys and take a close look at reviews on platforms like Kununu and Google. And yes – we see it in how many people come back. Team members. And guests.
Learn. And do better.
HGC and CREST take a deep look at what truly defines a great workplace. The result? Real guidance for the future
What comes next?
One project especially close to our hearts is the new staff residence we’re currently building. It’s a major investment – and our way of offering our team a true home while they’re with us. With everything that matters: spacious private rooms, inviting shared spaces, even a cinema. We’re not just investing in buildings – we’re investing in quality of life. It strengthens our sense of community and shows how we think and act as a modern employer.
Diego on what good leadership really means
«A strong team doesn’t just happen. It takes clarity, trust, and space to grow – both professionally and personally.»
And finally: what do you hope for in the future?
That our energy keeps flowing. That we keep moving forward. And that the Cyprianerhof remains a true place to grow – for everyone who works here.
