Maria Weißenstein or Pietralba

Maria Weißenstein is South Tyrol's most important place of pilgrimage. It is one of the more revered holy places in the region.
For several decades good roads have opened the way to the place of pilgrimage. One road leads from the Val d'Ega via Nova Ponente to Monte San Pietro and Pietralba.
The other comes out of the Val d'Adige, goes close by Aldino and ends in Pietralba.
The stream of pilgrims has increased once more, especially since the visit of Pope John Paul II in July 1988. The place of pilgrimage with the church, the pilgrims' house (built in 1897), the souvenir shop, guest house (built in 1708) and large car park is not only well equipped for devout pilgrims, but also for the many hikers. Pietralba is a splendid departure point for hikes.
