The most beautiful destinations for your next day trip in and around South Tyrol

Fancy a break from the mountains? Explore the beauty of the region and make a day trip to stunning destinations in and around South Tyrol. Magnificent castles, impressive gorges or vibrant city life? So many hotspots. And you choose. Looking for inspiration? We have collected our favourite ones for you.

Our favourites

A magnificently preserved Renaissance masterpiece with a courtyard, chapel, fireplace room, knights’ hall and armoury. The tour provides interesting insights into the history of this historical gem.

The Bletterbach gorge digs deep – really deep. An educational hiking trail takes you on a journey through 40 million years of geological history as you make your way through the impressive gorge. Are you ready?

It is one of the most popular destinations for an excursion in South Tyrol – and shrouded in myth and legend. The sorcerer Masaré is said to have been hopelessly in love with the mermaid living in the lake. And him being heartbroken, he has allegedly thrown shards of rainbow and precious jewels into the lake. Maybe that is why it still shimmers in the most beautiful colours today? We will never know. But it surely is a sight to see.

It might not be an insider tip anymore, but Bolzano is always worth a visit. Get on the bus or in the car and find yourself in this cultural centre in no time. Here you can feast, shop, experience art and culture not far from the Cyprianerhof. The South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology, the Museion or the medieval frescoes of Runkelstein Castle let you glimpse into the city’s rich history. Our tip: take the cable car to Soprabolzano, enjoy the view – and round off the day with an aperitif. Whatever you choose to do, the day will fly by in Bolzano.

Sissi knew why she loved this place. And we couldn’t agree more. Merano is simply charming with its inviting promenades, medieval arcades and Art Nouveau architecture. In the gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle, you will find a green oasis of serenity with palm trees, mountain views and a sea of flowers. And for those who want to scratch beneath the lovely surface: the Touriseum tells the story of South Tyrolean tourism from then until now.

A baroque cathedral city full of history. But with a modern heart. The monastery whispers of days past, the Hofburg castle sets the stage for art and culture. The Eisack river leads you the way on a leisurely stroll. The old town centre invites you to stop by small boutiques and charming cafés – or to treat yourself to an ice cream on the cathedral square.

High above life and close to the stars. San Valentino in Campo is Europe’s first star village. Launch your journey through space in the planetarium and solar observatory – to marvel, to learn, to watch. Stargazing has never been more fascinating.

More than 80 garden designs from all over the world, 100,000 flowers in spring and summer, a castle as the backdrop: the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle are a pleasure for all senses. From barrel cactus to water lily, from bamboo to olive grove – plants from all corners of the world thrive together in these gardens and create stunning new landscapes. And there is more: adventure stations, viewing points and the Touriseum in the castle – for curious minds and for garden lovers.

The mountain sun is shining brightly and the refreshing lakes are irresistible: the Fiè Pond with a view of Sciliar like a postcard picture, the lakes of Monticolo hidden away in the forest or the Lago di Caldaro, warm and vast. Swimming, rowing, dipping in your toes – this is the essence of a summer in South Tyrol.

Following in the footsteps of Romeo and Juliet: Verona is the most romantic city in Italy. Secluded alleyways, charming town squares, old palaces and the impressive Arena di Verona make this city a magical place. But see for yourself and discover the Torre dei Lamberti and so much more.

Riva, Torbole, Malcesine or Arco – truly picturesque. Only two hours away from the Cyprianerhof, you can feel the Mediterranean flair: lemon groves, cobblestones and a salty sea breeze. Stroll along the lakeside, walk up to the castle ruins in Arco or marvel at the beauty of the old town centre of Malcesine. A day trip that feels like a holiday.

Hop on a train in Bolzano and find yourself in Venice within only an hour. Float along the Canale in a gondola, get ice cream on St. Mark’s Square and explore the Doge’s Palace. Or make a little detour to the glass islands of Burano and Murano. Always worth a trip.

Let the gaze wander further. For example up north to Vicenza, the city of the visionary architect Palladio. Or to Bassano del Grappa with its famous wooden bridge, clear rivers and exquisite grappa. Or the charming commune Soave, where wine, ancient town walls and medieval flair come together.

Cultura Dolomiti. Our lifestyle. Our take on modern hospitality.

Full of curiosity. And a desire for change. Can you feel it too?

You want more? The Cyprianerhof is your place to be.
